Eligibility Criteria for NSFAS 2024

  • A copy of your certificate of birth, student ID, and parent(s) or guardian(s) ID
  • Smart card, the card’s two sides must be present
  • Evidence of income, if relevant
  • Individuals who have disabilities (form Disability Annexure A)
  • If the Agency for Children and Families of Social Welfare and Development determines that a prospective applicant is an endangered child, they must submit a social worker-completed endangered Child Confession form.
  • The Declaration of Privacy must be completed by the applicant if they have stated that they do not have any relatives who have information or a shortened birth certificate. 

NSFAS Allowances 2024

Each amount listed for housing, stipend, transportation, and educational materials must match the most recent authorized DHET requirements.

Allowances for University Students:

  • By the real expenses assessed by the institution (private lodging expenses cannot be higher than those associated with on-campus living).
  • Transportation (from the institution up to 40 kilometers) R7 500 annually
  • Living stipend of R15,000 annually
  • Annual book allowances of R5,200
  • R2900 annual incidental/personal care stipend for students living in catered housing

TVET College NSFAS Contribution:

  • The annual cost of lodging in an urban environment is R24,000.
  • The annual cost of lodging in a peri-urban location is R18,900.
  • The annual cost of lodging in a rural area is R15,750.
  • Transportation (from the institution up to 40 kilometers) R7,350 annually
  • Transport R7,000 annually
  • Annual incidental/personal service reimbursement of R2,900

NSFAS Application Status 2024

Your application academic record and certified supporting documents will be examined by NSFAS. You must check your NSFAS Request status to find your request was accepted or rejected.

  • Visit the official website at  https://my.nsfas.org.za
  • Enter your password and ID number to log in.
  • Next, you select the “Sign In” option.
  • To view the status of your 2024 NSFAS application, click “Track Funding Progress.”

Once you have verified the status of your application, you may see the following:

  • Application Received on NSFAS has acknowledged receipt of your application.
  • Your funding request has been accepted by NSFAS.
  • Unfortunately, They were unable to process your application.
  • The application you submitted is still being processed by NSFAS.
